Anthony Crudele applies his core Bollinger Band framework (20-period, 3 standard deviations) strictly to the Daily chart to define the overarching market environment. His non-negotiable daily routine involves reading the daily bands to categorize the market into consolidation, expansion, or mean reversion before making any trading decisions.

Once the daily chart sets his directional posture, he drops down to lower execution timeframes (60-minute, 30-minute, or 3-minute). On these intraday charts, he does not rely on Bollinger Bands. Instead, he uses a different set of technical tools to refine his entries, manage risk, and time his exits:

  • Anchored VWAP with Deviation Bands: He anchors VWAP to a key turning point (a major intraday high or low) and plots 1, 2, and 3 standard deviation bands around it. These VWAP bands serve as his intraday framework to determine if the trend is holding and to guide where to trim profits.

  • Moving Averages: He overlays 8, 21, and 34-period moving averages to provide context for exits, strictly avoiding them as entry signals.

  • Short-Term Price Structure: Depending on the daily environment, he looks for specific lower-timeframe price action. In consolidation, he waits for price to sweep the edges of a range (stop-runs) on the 30-minute or 60-minute chart. In an expansion, he looks for lower-timeframe breakouts or pullbacks to execute his single-direction bias.
